This page aims to provide the reader with a brief overview of our staff training services.

Staff Training - Legislative Background

Since 1^st October 2006, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (“RRFSO”) (for England & Wales) and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 (for Scotland) have been in effect imposing drastic changes to the regulatory regime for fire safety.

Both sets of the legislation above require the responsible person (or a third party(ies)) to ensure that fire safety training for all employees:

• is adequate, suitable and sufficient¹;
• is provided to employees on starting²;
• is provided where there are new or increased risks³;
• repeated "periodically" where appropriate⁴.

Additionally, the legislation also requires that competent persons are nominated to "take measures for fire-fighting" and that they are adequately trained⁵. Persons in these roles are often appropriately trained competent employees and are often referred to as 'fire marshals' or 'fire wardens'.
